Maidstone and Mid-Kent Mind Wellbeing Café

January marks an opportunity for many new things to take form. For Maidstone and Mid-Kent Mind, it is an opportunity to continue to innovate the support we deliver within the Maidstone area – by announcing a brand new out-of-hours service.

Maidstone and Mid-Kent Mind are using January to debut a brand-new service – a Wellbeing Café taking place in Maidstone. Similar to a service which they already deliver in Ashford, the Wellbeing Café will provide service users with an opportunity to seek community-based peer-to-peer support out of conventional hours. The Wellbeing Café will have a focus on bringing individuals together in a positive and enriching environment – with a host of wellbeing activities and games available for service users to come in and take part in.

Julie Blackmore, MMK Mind’s CEO, had the following to say on the debut of the Wellbeing Café:

“We needed an additional service to support people assisted at our Crisis Café service who may now require less intensive support. MMK Mind have had an incredibly successful year, so we have decided to self-fund the initial pilot of this provision. It is our hope that if the Café service proves successful, we will then be able to look for additional funding to increase the Café’s longevity.”

The Maidstone Wellbeing Café will run as a pilot service until March the 31st. At this point, MMK Mind will aim to seek funding to keep the service open if it has proved useful to the local community.

The Café itself will be accessible on Wednesday nights from 5pm – 7:30pm.

The Café will run from MMK Mind’s Maidstone Office, at 23 College Road, Maidstone, Kent, ME15 6YH.

UPDATE  8th May 2019...

"It is with great sadness that Maidstone and Mid-Kent Mind must announce the closure of this service. Whilst some service users found the Wellbeing Cafe useful, it did not see the scope of access that we had anticipated - and as such, we have decided to re-evaluate how we are using our assets to provide the best support within our local community.

Please rest-assured that service users accessing the Cafe were supported with access to alternative support, and our Hope Cafe service - providing help for those in crisis - will continue to run regardless."
