Worlds biggest 5k is on its way to Maidstone

Worlds biggest 5k is on its way to Maidstone

Gung-Ho 2

The world’s biggest 5k is on its way to Maidstone – and it will be bigger and better than ever.

Gung-Ho! Seriously Fun 5k will give people from Maidstone and across Kent a chance to roll back the years to the days of Total Wipeout, Fun House and It’s A Knockout as they clamber over and through giant inflatables.

Up to 5,000 people can take part in the huge, fun-filled course –  filled with enough air to inflate more than 80 MILLION footballs – when it comes to Mote Park, Maidstone, for the first time on Saturday 8th June.

Gung-Ho! visited Brands Hatch in 2016, 2017 and 2018, but with new and improved obstacles, organisers promise this will be the most exciting event yet.

Organiser Alex Winters said: “When we were drawing up the places we wanted to visit in 2019 Kent  and Maidstone in particular was right at the top of the list.

“For us, it feels like home. Every event has just got better and better and now we are looking forward to visiting a new venue and putting on our best Seriously Fun 5k yet. So sign up and take part in the world’s biggest 5k run and have a day out like no other!”

Alex Winters, a former Cbeebies presenter, came up with the idea of an inflatable run for all the family while watching an episode of Ninja Warrior back in 2014.

Gung-Ho! was born, and since 2015 has seen more than 200,000 people taking part.

Tens of thousands more people are expected to take part in 2019, with Gung-Ho! embarking on a 15-event tour of the country.

Alex added: “We are itching to go! We know this will be the best year yet and can’t wait to show Maidstone what we have in store!

“When I was younger I dreamed of taking part in TV shows like Fun House and It’s a Knockout, and I know millions of others did too.

“Well, now we are giving people across the country the chance to roll back the years and live out every kid’s dream.

“It’s a day out for all the family. So many events are just for the super-fit or experienced runners, whereas Gung-Ho! has something for everybody.

“No matter your age, shape, size or fitness level, this is one for you!”

Thousands of pounds are expected to be raised for good causes thanks to people taking part for charity, adding to hundreds of thousands of pounds already raised for good causes at previous events.

Participants can go Gung-Ho! in aid of the event’s national charity partner BBC Children in Need. Simply register with Gung-Ho! then go to BBC Children in Need to tell them.

Runners, who must be at least 4ft tall, receive a free bib with race number, Gung-Ho! t-shirt and  headband, while any spectators can attend for free.
