Maidstone and Mid-Kent Mind celebrate completion of new extension

Maidstone and Mid-Kent Mind celebrate completion of new extension

On Friday, 1st of March 2019, Maidstone and Mid-Kent Mind held an opening ceremony to mark the completion of their extension on College Road.

The extension – valued at approximately £140,000, has seen additional training and counselling space added to the property on College Road, in addition to improved accessibility with the addition of a concrete ramp and better overall access for service users who may suffer with disabilities.

The ceremony saw approximately fifty individuals gather at the building – with everyone from members of staff, to representatives of funding bodies, and service users gathered to mark the tremendous occasion. The opening ceremony itself was facilitated by Maidstone and Mid-Kent Mind’s CEO, Julie Blackmore, their Chair of Trustees, Cllr Sue Grigg, Mayor of Maidstone Cllr David Naghi and Kent Police Crime Commissioner Matthew Scott. All of these individuals have been involved in the extension in various capacities – with Matthew Scott’s Police Crime Commissioner fund providing some of the funding to enable the extension to be completed.

It is hoped that the extension work will not only increase the current services that MMK Mind offer (providing more scope for training and greater accessibility and attendance for core community groups), but will also help to solidify the footprint of the organisation within the local community as they continue to grow and expand – allowing the organisation to ensure that the correct support will be in place for the community for years to come. This focus on longevity has proved to be crucial for the organisation – with more people than ever before now presenting with mental health difficulties, and a much greater demand for support.

The new facilities are already in use on College Road – supporting both one-to-one and group work, and the additional space for staff has supported the continual exponential growth of the organisation into 2019.

MMK Mind would like to extend a special thanks to all in attendance and all who made the day possible. This includes our funders, our staff, our service users, the local press and media, and of course Cllr David Naghi and Matthew Scott.
