Maidstone Children’s Kung Fu and Self-Defence Classes
Maidstone Children’s Kung Fu and Self-Defence Classes
Surge was founded 2 years ago by Heather, on the principle that every woman, child and man should have the right to learn these skills regardless of their financial situation. It is dedicated to giving everyone access to life saving self-defence and protection skills with no (or minimal) cost and now runs regular courses across Kent as well as here in Maidstone. Surge also works alongside Mind UK and Involve Kent providing courses to help build confidence and self-esteem.
Heather, Surge’s founder, started Kung Fu when she was just four years old and started teaching when she was only 13 to children within her Kung Fu school, and later running regular women’s classes alongside children’s classes. A student of Krav Maga and Judo, she has also spent time in China at the Shaolin Monasteries training with the Shaolin Monks.
Every course has been designed to make it accessible to all fitness levels, abilities, disabilities and ages and Heather is passionate about women and children being able to learn in a fun and relaxed environment.
Self-defence is not a martial art
Although all elements are taken from martial arts, Krav Maga in particular, self defence is about taking the most direct and effective techniques and adapting them for women and children also believe that self defence starts with self awareness.
Children’s Kung Fu Classes
Children’s classes are a great way of children gaining confidence, learning self-discipline, making new friends and belonging to a community outside of school. We have focused gradings so kids can work towards earning belts and moving towards senior levels. Plus, the classes include lots of fun games and laughter too!
Come along for an hour each week on a Wednesday, 6-7pm at Maidstone Community Support Centre. Classes cost just £15 a month and are available to 7-16 years old.
Five reasons why you should sign your child up today!
- Help them to learn to read a situation, becoming more aware of what’s around them can often be the best defence. Averting any challenges, before they start!
- Encouraging physical activity and a positive attitude to keeping fit
- Encouraging non-violent conflict and peaceful resolutions
- Boosting social skills and developing teamwork
- Become part of the Surge community, and there’s a lot of laughter and fun along the way!
Don’t take our word for it …. read these reviews from Surge participants
